For International Travelers: Stamping of Boarding Passes for Immigration to Be Discontinued from September 1
Changes to immigration rules will take effect starting September 1.
Frequent international travelers are accustomed to carrying a boarding pass and presenting it at the immigration counter, where an immigration stamp is placed on it after clearance procedures are completed. This routine is set to change: starting September 1, the practice of physically stamping boarding passes during immigration clearance will be discontinued for passengers traveling abroad.
Key Changes
- Digital Boarding Passes Accepted: Passengers can now simply display their electronic boarding pass (e-boarding pass) on their mobile phones at the immigration counter.
- No Mandatory Physical Prints: Travelers are no longer required to carry a printed paper boarding pass. The procedure can be completed entirely using the digital pass on a smartphone.
- Paper Passes Still Allowed: For passengers who prefer carrying physical paper boarding passes, there is no restriction. Both e-boarding passes and physical boarding passes will continue to be accepted; only the physical stamping on the boarding pass is being eliminated.
Immigration Clearance Process Remains Intact
Discontinuing the physical stamp on the boarding pass does not mean immigration checks are being removed. Immigration officials will still thoroughly verify the traveler's passport, travel documentation, and necessary passenger details before granting clearance. The process will be completed digitally in the system rather than being physically stamped onto the boarding pass.
Convenience for Fast-Track Travelers
Passengers registered with systems like the Fast Track Immigration (FTI) and Trusted Traveler Programme (TTP) can also utilize their e-boarding passes at automated e-gates. This is expected to significantly expedite the clearance process for eligible travelers.

Passengers traveling abroad from September 1 do not need to take any special additional steps. Simply arrive at the airport with a valid passport and relevant travel documents. You can present your boarding pass either digitally on your phone or as a printed paper copy.
